ESWT on the Local News

Dateline Portland Oregon:
Just watched an outstanding 2 1/2 minute news feature about ESWT on the local news (KOIN-TV here in Portland) . Reporter (Christine Miles) started by referring to ESWT as 'Orthotripsy.' Characterized it as a 'medical breakthrough.'

They talked the lingo, using terms like 'heel pain' and 'plantar fasciitis.' Mentioned how the treatment is replacing surgery. How it's particularly helpful for people who have had failed results with stretching, PT, and medications.

Showed an Ossatron in action (spark plug being inserted, chamber filling with water, and the head of the machine being guided around the bottom of a patient's foot as the machine pulsed). Patient was under IV sedation.

Very satisfied patient interviewed afterwards.

The Podiatrist featured in the report (Dr. Patricia Cain) spoke of 75 to 80% effectiveness with 'first time treatment.' The report also mentioned Orthotripsy treatments being done for tennis elbow and shoulder problems.

AND the report mentioned that MOST insurance companies are paying for it.

Here's a link to the Portland consortium doing the procedures.

Click on 'Orthotripsy' to the left.

Also worth a look might be a recent article in the 'Portland Business Journal' discussing Orthotripsy and the Portland consortium. Article states the procedure here costs $4,000, but that was three months ago.
