scheduled for surery

Posted by Jean M on 2/27/02 at 10:23 (075184)

I have posted on the boards a few times about my condition, which has been diagnosed as PTTD. I saw an orthopaedic specialist have a surgery for this scheduled in two weeks. At this time I have all of the common symptoms of the disorder except that my arch is still intact. At this time it is questionable as to what the actual surgery will entail because it may just be scarring or a partial tear. (just cleaning the tendon or a tendon transfer if needed) I am just wondering if anyone here has had the surgery even though their arch still looked good, and what was found? I have lots of faith in the surgeron he has been highly reccomended and he even juggled his busy schedule to fit me in so I could heal before I need to return to work. I appreciate any insight into this type of surgery from someone who has been there. I know each of us are different but it is informative to hear how things went for someone else.

Hi Jean, my name is Pam and I too just had surgery on my right foot........it is scary huh??????? but thinking about it was worse than the surgery for me :) I wish you all the best and you will surely be in my prayers.......keep a positive attitude as it is natures best medicine :) the correction of the problem is just the beginning.......the sitting around while the healing takes place is the hardest part.......but keep your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel and it will make being laid up a little more tolerable.......best of luck to you and keep us posted........:)

Both of you are so kind. Knowing that even total strangers are praying gives me comfort. I too pray that you Pam continue to improve in your recovery. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement too. I know that having patience is going to be on my side after the operation if I want to be back to feeling good by the time I have to return to work. I plan to find a few good books to have around before I have surgery so there is something to do afterwards while I am healing. Thanks again and I will keep you posted as I am able.

Hi Jean, no need for thanks here as I fully understand what this is like for you.....I am real good at giving advice but not so good the past couple of days using it myself.....23 days on the couch is getting to me.....geez, I knew it would be difficult as I am very hyper and very active......but lord I had no idea just how hard......I guess it did not help that I have been laid up since Oct with this crap.....but I will make it.....I started thinking this morning that I have to be closer than I was to regaining my life and it has kinda helped renew my spirit.....I go back to the surgeon on Tue and pray he is gonna give me the boot so I can begin to walk again......

I so wish you the best of luck with your surgery and the post op recovery period.....I think the worst part of the surgery for me so far has been not knowing what I am supposed to feel like.....as per the doc, each of us are different in our bodies healing abilities......I will continue to pray for you and for all of us here that continue to battle these terrible conditions that have changed our lives forever......good luck my friend and know that you are never alone in this, we are all just a keystroke away :)
