Help!

Posted by Mike S. on 3/14/02 at 20:18 (076451)

I have bilateral TTS, left worse than right. Both legs weak up to thigh, especially left, left ankle half numb, left foot is sluggish. I swing it to walk like you would a prosthesis, half of left foot control is gone.

Could I be causing permanent damage?

Hi Mike , Frist off , I am so sorry to hear what is going on with you . Have you have your back checked ? What kind of doctor are you seeing ? I think I read on one of the other boards that you are having surgery , a TT release , now it this on both of your ankles or just one ? This is you right ? Does your feet or legs turn different colors , blue , red ???
My best to you Mike ,Laurie R

It's both legs, but the left is worse. No coloration change. I was scheduled for a TT release today, but I postponed & now wish I wish I was on the OR table today.

I just don't hear of weakness in the legs and foot sluggishness from others who have TTS?? I don't know if it's because I don't have 'classic' TTS as my doc said or what.

Re: Help! - good that you postponed

Mike,

Have you been to a neurologist, and other specialist to make sure there isn't something else going on in your system? It's a good thing you did postpone the surgery for now. Maybe it's not what you need at all, and could possibly have made things worse. What kind of doctor was going to do the surgery, (pod, orthopedic surgeon, etc)., and said you don't have classic TTS? This doesn't sound like just TTS. Have you had a through neurological exam? Have any radiculopathies coming from lower lumbar spine been ruled out? Has your vascular system been investigated? Also doctors like a rheumatologist could make sure there isn't an immune problem.

Has your neurologist done an emg for Peripheral Neuropathy? The pain going up into the lower legs and the 'drop foot' sounds suspicious, just my opinion and also a spinal exam may be in order as well. Good luck and please keep us posted

Re: I Postponed, But What Else is There to Test??

Here is my latest of FIVE NCV/EMG tests. Findings seem to be c/w distal tibial neuropathies bilaterally. Distal to Soleus/Flex Dig Longus/Post Tib. Primarily appears to involve FDIP/AH though unable to find insertional activity of left FDIP. Previous conduction studies showed significant slowing of medial & lateral plantar studies.

I've had LOTS of blood tests, spinal fluid tests & all are negative.

What else is there to look for? My leg weakness are a function of walking, more walking, more pain & weakness.

Have you had a nerve biopsy?

And were your nerve conduction tests done by a neurologist?

All NCV/EMG tests done by Neurologists/Phsyiatrists

No biopsy, was told that usually they rarely tell you anything new, plus you get additional numbness from the biopsy.

I also had bilateral neuroma's removed last year - common foot ailment.
