Need a Docs advice!

Posted by Carmon S. on 3/21/02 at 13:11 (077114)

Hello there,
I am now almost 6 wks. post-op from a partial PF release (no heel spur removal...because I didn't have any spurs). I have recently started physio and am doing this twice a week. I also have a tens unit that I use on my own at home, as well as a my foot exercise regimen. I have been doing some gentle deep tissue massage on my own (partly becasue I don't trust anyone else to do it). I am doing the cross fiber technique as recommended form my physio lady. There is no mistaking that hard scar tissue...it can be very painful to work through.

So now for my question............would you recommend a professional massage therapist do the deep tissue massage for me??? I have been given a recommendation from a friend. I am just not quite sure about this as you can tell. I just don't want anyone to injure or re-injure anything at this point.

I would appreciate your opinion.

A professional massage therapist should understand how to deal effectively with scar tissue, although many physical therapists are adept at dealing with this.
