A setback! What do you think Dr. Z & others?

Posted by Rachael T. on 4/06/02 at 16:20 (078707)

I posted on the first msg. board about this for more detail if you care to read....but I am asking mainly the success rate w/ prednisone packet treatment - for 1 week. Sure, I am familiar w/ all the adverse reactions that are possible...but I feel 1 week is worth the risk.....Has anyone had success w/ this treatment plan? And, what is your history with this treatment, Dr. Z? My treatment is 1 week of pred. with 50mg Vioxx following thereafter.

Are you using a Medrol dosepack? Dosing is an issue as higher doses may be needed for musculoskeletal conditions than for dermatologic and ENT problems. I thus generally design my own steroid protocols utilizing methylprednisolone which I have found effective as adjunctive treatment.

Thanks Dr. Davis for your reply....& advisement. Yes, I am using methylprednisolone tablets (21-pack) 4 mg. I too am wondering if I need a higher dosage as I am still having pain after 2 days of taking the tablets; & especially so since PF onset was over 1 year ago now & I also had ESWT in November; plus regular & conservative prior treatment plans.

Hi

Give the dose packet more time.
