how do we know if we have enough dorsiflexion?

Posted by Ellen J. on 4/20/02 at 17:00 (080492)

Hi,
I have been wondering for quite awhile if there is any way to tell how much flexibility we have in our calf muscle. For example, if we are standing and lift the toe area off the ground, is there a certain number of degrees that the foot should lift in order to indicate good flexibility?
While I'm standing I can raise my forefoot so that my toes are about 5 inches off the ground and of course, that doesn't tell you much if you don't know the length of my foot so I'm wondering about angle?
Thanks for any info.

Ellen~

Your Pod or Physical Therapist can measure your ankle dors. acurately.

Exercises you may want to ask them about.....

Thanks, Carmen.
I took a look at the link you sent--thank you for sending it. I have an appt. with my pod on may 1 so I'll ask him at that time.
