Anyone want to host me on vacation?

Posted by Scott R on 4/22/02 at 18:33 (080732)

I'm looking for some place to vacation. I was thinking of San Francisco, but any neat place where someone friendly might let me spend the night for 2 or 3 days would be good. I don't know if there will be a girlfriend at the time of the vacation or not. I have some air miles built up and like cheap vacations. I think i like big cities best. And lots of people.

Or maybe we should revisit the idea of a group vacation/conference. I could pay for some stuff (business expense). Location really isn't as important as conversation. It would be nice if we had a huge house and about 15 attendees. I know great beach spots where we can get an enormous house for $30 a night per person.

And PLUSH carpets for sore feet everywhere...comfy CHAIRS everywhere.

People COULD SIT to give talks (not have to stand!) and there would be food
everywhere (and drinks) and good music...

with a pool and sun at this place.

Would that be cool or what?

scott, i don't know if you're up for this, but you're always welcome in our house. old orchard beach has 8,000 year-round residents but 100,000 in the summer. you can find everything here from too many tattoo parlors and palm readers and fried doughs to my antiques shop and some neat eating & drinking places down at the pier, where 'everything' happens (including too much drinking). the beach is 7 miles long, and it's a great beach -- we live one block from it. you can see it from our little guest room.

portland is a small city, just 20 minutes away, but it's packed with cultural stuff.

i don't know how the maybe-girlfriend would like it: we only have one little bed in the guest room, so she'd have to sleep on the floor, unless you plan to be a REAL gentleman or a complete NON-gentlemen, if you catch my drift.

probably not what you have in mind, but you're always welcome!

I'd invite 'y'all' (or is it all y'all) to my place but I don't think the weather here is the type of vacation anyone is looking for (it snowed again yesterday)

(I would never say 'y'all' but I'm practicing my southern speech today.)

Laurie has always offerred to bartend at the convention...we will have to have a nice high bar stool for her to prop her bottom on so she can rest her feet.
