Tests for nerve damage

Posted by Pete R on 6/09/02 at 13:36 (086846)

What test would you expect a neurologist to perform to confirm whether my heel / foot pain is actually nerve damage rather than PF ?

Thanks

Pete,

The doctors seem to be taking the night off, but the usual tests to check for nerve damage are a nerve conduction velocity test (NCV), which tests how fast your nerve impulses are firing (-- slow is bad --) and an electromyogram (EMG), which should show whether nerve problems are affecting the way your muscles work.
