PT

Posted by Mar on 6/12/02 at 13:28 (087320)

I'm wondering what kind of PT is recommended for PF? I've been through every other possible treatment for PF and 3 weeks ago I had ESWT, but no doctor ever suggested PT. I did have foot massages with my acupuncture, but what else do people do for PT? Mar

Hi Mar:

We typically use paraffin baths, Ultrasound and electrical stimulation for heel pain and fasciitis. Sometimes we do whirlpool.

Dr. Coz --
Ok -- I've been having ultrasound twice a week since November -- didn;t realize that was PT. My pod had also talked about the paraffin, but he doesn't do it himself. I guess since I have had ESWT, I don;t need to consider these other things? (I am still going for the ultrasound though.) Thanks -- Mar

Hi

I really like paraffin baths. These can be done at home. You can buy a paraffin bath at a medical supply store . IF you have an insurance plan with a prescription you can get your insurance company to help to pay for this . You can also go to Bed, Bath and Beyond they have a great paraffin bath systme for under forty dollars. So I would try this at home

Dr Z --

Ok -- thanks -- I didn't realize I could do it at home and that it was so reasonable. I'll look into it. Mar

Oh -- I thought of a question. The front of my right foot where I had bunion surgery is still painful and sore -- sesamoiditis and who knows what else. Will the paraffin be okay on that? Right now I use heat on the heels (after ESWT) and ice on the ball of the foot. Thanks - Mar

Hi MAr:

Yes the paraffin will be great. It will vasodilate the area increasing blood flow.
