Post surgery problems with hallux valgus

Posted by Patt B on 7/13/02 at 14:50 (089609)

Surgery last July to correct severe hallux valgus. Now one year later, left large toe moves too much to right. The swelling between large toe and second toe continues. 2nd toe was shortened along with the fusion surgery. I have hardware in my foot. Very hard to find shoes and painful to be on feet all day, walk home, and to work. Normal days without pain do not exist.

Do I need to have additional surgery, since I think the surgeon might have overcorrected. Also, pip resecion on 2nd toe has left it looking like a stub - shorter than third toe and wrinkly with thick skin on bottom, causing callus.

Help!

Overcorrection is very rare but it does happen. It's called Hallux Varus. I would go back and see the surgeon.
