Ankylosing spondylitis

Posted by Rachel W. on 8/10/02 at 12:30 (092127)

I've been on this message board quite a few times as I have very painful feet which hasn't got a lot better.

I recently posted a message 'What is wrong with me?'.
Had lots of replies. Thankyou.

Said that I was seeing a private foot specialist (BUPA). Not much more joy though except that he said that he would write to my Doctor and suggest that I should be sent for more bloodtests, have some x-rays and see a rheumatologist due to my painful right knee, left ankle, right elbow(now passed), right wrist(now present). Also severe lower back pain in morning when waking.

I have been searching around the internet going out of going out of my mind what is wrong with me and I came across the illness 'Ankylosing spondylitis'. I think i'm going to have to suggest to my rheumatologist that he tests me for this when I see him as it sounds very much like what it could be.

I know it sounds stupid but in a way I hope it is that as I hate the not knowing what I've got.

Actually my feet aren't as bad as they were anymore. It's just dawned on me when I think of how I was a couple of months ago.

They are still quite painful but nowhere near as bad as they were.

I have been suffering over 20 years with PF as well as other muscular maladies. I have treated it (them) in every way imaginable, including 3 surgeries. All failed. I visited a very well know rheumatologist, who, even though my bloodwork came back negative, was convinced I had a related condition, (10% of all cases come back with negative bloodwork). However, the main form of medicinal treatment failed for me, Azulfidine. To make a very long story short, I stumbled on this website and found out about ESWT and it's working!!! Try it.

So, while PF is indeed a possible symptom of Ankylosing Spondilitis and other rheumatological conditions, it doesn't mean treatment will be successful however. Good luck.
