heel pain when not walking

my husband is a mechanic and on his feet constantly all day. he has had terrible pains in his heel after leaving work and being off his feet. he drives about 30 minutes and then comes in the house and is in a terrible amount of pain. he is walking on a cement floor all day. any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

HI Pat:

I would suggest getting a rubbermaid catalogue and look at their fatique mats. He could place this on the floor where he is standing when working. Cement floors are very hard on the feet causing fatique.

I don't know how well the mats really work. When my foot pain first started 2 years ago I was working as a cashier at k-mart. Three 12 hour shifts a week. We had those mats behind all the registers, yet even people who worked fewer hours than I did had problems almost as bad as mine.
