What to do while waiting for Dr appointment

I am new to the list and just developed this pain in my right heel about a month ago. Someone mentioned heel spurs, which led to my hearing about PF. I read everything on the website & it describes the pain in my right foot perfectly. I made an appointment to see my Dr and expect that I will have to get a referral to a specialist. But this will all take a while. So my question is, what do I do in the meantime? I started stretching exercises, icing the foot, and I bought some off-the-shelf Dr Scholls U-shaped inserts. The problem with these is that while the insert has helped my right foot tremendously (no more feeling like some one poked a spike in my heel, it is causing problems with my left foot. My ankle has started getting sore. I don't have the sharp pain in my left foot, but I can't very well go around with an insert in my right shoe and nothing in the left. One leg would be taller than the other. Any ideas? Any other suggestions? This is all very new to me. I have never had problems with my feet before. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I've worn just one insert before. Sometimes your legs are different anyway. I doesn't hurt to try it. Also take an anti inflammatory drug, like advil every 4-6 hours. Good luck
