insurance/medicare

does anyone know if the treatment can be paid for with insurance or medicare?

Insurance coverage is spotty so check with your doctor who is doing the treatment. Medicare doesn't cover ESWT at this point in time

Its funny you should say that . Just today I heard that six Medicare carriers are covering ESWT . Where I have no idea. I do know that at one time Alaska Blue Shield was covering ESWT.

I remember seeing a bulletin approximately March 2001 concerning coverage of ESWT. Medicare had extended coverage but at a reimbursement rate far less than the cost of treatment -- $300 inclusive of surgicenter and surgeon. Considering the availability of the low energy units used in office, that may be an option for Medicare patients if Medicare will allow payment for 3 low energy applications.
