Plantar Fascia

Posted by Larry J. on 9/15/02 at 15:50 (095372)

I am 55 yrs old and have suffered since I stood on a ladder at work for 13 yrs painting. I have had tapeing, accupuncture, medicines that make you sick intentionally, splints, foot stretching exercises, lumbar nerve blocks, foot nerve blocks, steroids to the point I had what they call a blow out and EWST. I forgot about the various anti-inflammatory medicines.
My feet hurt so bad have wondered about whether it is worth living with this pain.
My doctor had me on morphine patch what a night mare finally got off that and now am on methadone for the nerve pain. The side effects of it are terrible but at least I can somewhat stand the pain.
I have heard there is a soft laser surgery and a microscopic surgery that has better success rates then the original surgery for plantar fascia.
Have you been exposed to either of these and what is the success rate? Is this something that you would have done to your self if you were in my position?
Thank you any help is greatly appreaciated.

My general practioner thought maybe I had Rds but dont know what Dr. to see for that. He just gave me methadone and now I am having a reaction of mood changing with that so he gave me depakote to mellow me. Dont want to live the rest of my life on drugs if there is a procedure to help me.
any suggestions please let me try them the pain is almost unbearable.
thank you

Maybe you have Peripheral Neuropathy instead of PF or RDS. Are you an agent orange veteran like me? Many Vietnam vets have horrible problems with PN. Just a thought.

You need to see a pain management specialist as soon as you can. Delaying treatment makes RSD very hard to get under control. Your description of pain etc make it sure sound like RDS

Thank you will talk to general practioner for referral when I go back to see him.
Do you think it could be a combination of plantar fascia and RSD?

Hey Larry,

Pain meds will most likely help you, when dispensed by a pain management specialist. Before that, you might want to consider a Neurologist. They can tell you if your pain is nerve related, which wold mean a differnt type of med. It's it's simple PF, with inflamation, the opiates should work well. Either way, I'd see specialists at this point.

Good luck

Don't you mean RSD?

What causes RSD?

Can it cause joint pain in other areas of your body too.

I've had severe PF since beginning of May, find it very difficult to walk, and experiencing, as a few of you will probably know as I'm always going on about it, joint pains.

Still no diagnonis and still confused.

Can other types of more severe disease mimic PF in symptoms? How about diabetes or PN? When you pain gets worse with or without activity and rest then what? My Pod just shook his head and said he did not know what was wrong with me.
