Posted by Scott D. on 9/17/02 at 08:55 (095521)

FYI.. This is a link to one of Aetna's webpages dated 9/13/02 where they are denying coverage for ESWT.

I believe that if everyone who is denied, will appeal to the highest level, it will help to change the rule.

Good luck

Its typical . Aetna denies coverage for almost any type of foot treatment. If what Aetna states is true about ESWT there wouldn't be an FDA PMA. The entire purpose of FDA studies is safety and efficiency. Good luck with Aetna. The only way to make them change is to hire an attorney

This wasn't a denial of a claim that we had submitted, this is a policy statement on Aetna's website.

I looked at the link and their arguments concerning non-coverage for ESWT. They categorically deny coverage for foot orthotics, NO REASON PROVIDED, for PF unless it is after surgery. They cover surgery for PF.
Maybe someone from Aetna needs to read this web site.
