standing all day......

Posted by joannie M on 9/22/02 at 13:02 (095961)

my problem is i stand all day - 8-9 hours, on a stone floor! my foot pain subsides when i,m off, but as soon as i get back to work, i am literally crippled by the end of the day...literally. the pain is unbearable. would a period of rest in a cast or air cast help me? tis is being considered. i will take the time off if it will help but i am reluctant to take tim off for nothing.

The pain you have isn't 'nothing'. It's a serious inflammatory condition that can and will become chronic if untreated, and that can be totally disabling.

I doubt that a little time off would help much. You really need to look at a change of duties so that you don't have to stand all day. Standing all day on an unforgiving surface is one of the prime causes of plantar fasciitis. Consider whether you can get a switch of duties that will allow you to sit down to work.

Read the heel pain book on this website (click on the blue link here) to inform yourself of the condition and treatment options. If you haven't seen a podiatrist (foot specialist) please make arrangements to do that quickly.
