Putting an arch in a flat foot

Posted by Jami G on 9/24/02 at 10:02 (096095)

My son has flat feet. He plays football, baseball, and wrestles. He can run pretty fast, but my husband thinks that 'if we can put an arch in his foot, he can run faster.' What do you think? Can you safely put an arch in someone's foot? Please let me know.

I am not a doctor but I wouldn't recommend ANY changes to his foot structure that could cause long term implications.
I have never heard of an arched foot being faster than a flat foot either.

Doing such a thing could cripple him for the rest of his life.

I found this the other day.
This doc already does it.

Interesting article and thanks for posting it. Of course, I would only have it done if my feet hurt in the first place and not to do it just in order to run faster.
We are lucky to be living in this age of modern medicine--it's amazing what doctors can do these days.
