Plantar fasciitis

Posted by Sheila V. on 9/30/02 at 12:11 (096519)

My son is fourteen and is a competitive distance runner. He runs cross- country and school track and some local road races. His problem began over the summer while doing some training with some friends. Their training consisted of running anywhere from 4 to 7 miles on the road. One day after practice he noticed a strange feeling in his foot and heal area. He precided to take a week off training and opt to train in the water. A month later cross-country started and he slowly started back training only to find the dull pain return two weeks later. My question is we never went to a doctor for diagnosis does this sound like plantar fasciitis? My son also has a high arch and under pronates when he runs. There is no pain when he steps down in the mornings or while he walks. He is in the middle of cross-country season and desperately needs to start a harder traing schedule. Is it o.k. to continue to run when he feels the dull pain? He puts ice on his foot after runs and I give him foot massages. Is there anything else we can do? Thank you

Would like to know more re plantar fasciitis. I had bad pain in outside
bottom of heel, swelling from ankle and above, tremendous pain when
putting any weight on foot and at night would wake up with pain on top
of foot, inside near arch. Also tingling and 'needles and pins' on
whole back part of foot. Also above ankle through calf muscle is contains
pain. Doctor wasn't sure, thought it was plantar fasciitis
told me to do exercises such as hanging heels over stair, stretching with
one foot in back and straight and the other with knee relaxed and in front. In general have almost always now a throbbing type pain in lower leg
Also using ice. It has been three, almost 4 weeks. Need help on this.
