2 wks. post ESWT

Posted by Sharon F. on 10/05/02 at 05:41 (096910)

I've had PF over 3 yrs, inadequately responsive to the conservative treatments. Now I'm 2 wks. post-ESWT. The doc said to expect lots of pain for 1-2 weeks, take it easy, and NO anti-flammatories or ice for a month. I'm 40 years old and a busy Mom who works part-time (on my feet). Pain level is pretty high with each step I take, and stretching hurts pretty bad. The day I had ESWT, the machine technician told me to stretch very often, as she felt this was the key to ESWT success. Any comments? Sharon F.

My pain level following ESWT was increased for approx 2 weeks before returning to its pre-eswt level. I think this is pretty normal so you're pain should diminsh shortly

Pete- I was stretching every 1-2 hours the first 2 weeks after EWST; now it's just too painful, and I have backed off. Sharon

Stretching is ok, I think, but do non-weightbearing stuff like 'Julie's strecthes'. Anything that stretches the fascia will do more damage as that has already been 'injured' by the shockwave. Heat treatment was also previously recommended by Dr Z.

I'm sure things will improve shortly.

Pete- Could you lead me in the direction of Julie's stretches? Are they found on this website? Thanks, Sharon

Under the search facility on this site type in 'Julie's stretches', if that doesn't work type in 'Julie' and scroll through.
