pain on back side of heal

Posted by Cory C on 10/18/02 at 00:23 (097789)

I have been suffering from what I thought was PF for a couple of years now. Its not going away by itself. Looking at some diagrams it appears that typical PF pain is on the bottom part of the heal, instead of on the backside of the heal where I experience it. Maybe the name for my condition is different? It is most sore in the morning for the first 1/2 hour that I am walking, and then it loosens up and the pain from walking decreases to low pain levels. It is sore to the touch always. I read that cortisone shots may help. Is this approach recommended as a first step, or is orthotics the first step?
Your feedback is appreciated.

It sounds like achilles tendonitis is what you are describing. Never have local steriod injected into the achilles tendon. You could rupture the tendon. See a local foot specialist

I know how you must feel now because I had the same problem about two years ago. I felt as if my foot was on fire when I my feet first touched the floor. I dealt with this for at least 7 months. The doctor gave me anti-inflammatories but they did not give me any relief at all and he was talking about giving me cortisone shot. But before that time I found a product that gave me relief within a couple of weeks. After about three months or so it was as if I never had it. So don't give up!!
