sesamoid removal

Posted by Beckie D on 11/28/02 at 23:24 (101377)

I am having 1 sesamoid bone removed due to avascular necrosis. I was wondering if you can tell me how long the recovery period is? Also, will I be needing a cast after surgery?

i HAD MY SESAMOID BONE REMOVED IN 1986, AND I WAS WALKING ABOUT 2 weeks later. I had no cast, just a surgical boot. I have never had any problems with that since.

Beckie:

There are two sesamoid bones beneath the big toe joint. A surgical shoe or removable cast boot is often used. It sounds like there is more information that you need to discuss with your surgeon before proceeding.
