both feet, toes burning and numbness

Posted by Fran R. on 12/11/02 at 14:45 (102735)

For the last few years I have experience the numbness firs in both feet, toes. Gone to see my foot doctor, and no answer except to use inserts. Tried that, still nothing helped. I have even stepped on a staple and rose thorn and each time not realized the pain. Just a tingle that was bothersome to me. The worst is at night when I have my feet up and trying to sleep. My toes, the ball of the feet and my legs ache. The best to relieve these is when I bounce my legs on the floor to ease the pain. I broke my right ankle in three places, eight years ago and can't wear anything with a heel larger than 1 1\2 inches high. There is some ache with that but not nearly as bad as my feet/toes. I'm not a diabetic, but I am over weight, just 50 pounds over. I'm going to be 58 soon and know this may plan a part in what is happening. But I don't know of anyone that has had this problem.

Can you help me?
Sincerely,
Fran R.

You could have peripheral neuropathy of some kind. You need to see a neurologist or pain managment specialist
