I would say that a pod surgeon is more qualified, UNLESS the orthopedic surgeon is a foot and ankle specialist. In fact, if you can find one that's available to you with your insurance, have your surgery done by a podiatrist who is board certified for foot and ankle surgery (that is actually fairly rare; there are many pod surgeons out there who may be qualified in other ways but they are NOT board certified).

A regular orthopedic surgeon does NOT specialize in foot and ankle problems, and in fact many of them don't know all that much about feet.
An orthopedic surgeon who specilizes in foot and ankle surgery, however, may be an even better choice for your surgery than a pod -- it depends on the individual surgeons, their reputations and their qualifications.

I agree, Sharon, and would add: and their experience - the more the better - of the type of surgery it is proposed to perform.

I am board certified and since I don't perform this procedure I would consider myself not qualified. Here is another question . The podiatrist must be board certified in rear foot surgery including ankle surgery. or make sure you ask him how many times he has done the procedure. I would even ask to talk to patients that have had this done in the last five years.

You are board certified to do TTS release?
But you do not do it correct?

I have found an orthopedic 'foot and ankle' surgeon in my state that is on my insurance!! There's only 2 in the state of according to this orthopedic surgeon. I got to wait till fib 24th but that's ok.
