toe pain

Posted by amy S on 1/20/03 at 11:27 (106029)

My husband injured his toe 7 months ago. It is painful and not broken. We have gone to see doctors and they have had no hard evidence of what the problem may be. They have looked at x-rays and have seen no breakage. It is tender to the touch and a bit swollen. Please help!

Amy:
We can only speculate as to what is wrong without seeing it. One thing that may occur is that one or more of the joints in the toe was damaged when it was jammed. The doctor should be able to palpate the area and determine if that was the case. Sometimes a cortisone shot in the joint can provide some relief of pain and swelling.
