How ESWT feels

Posted by Peter F on 2/04/03 at 15:03 (107972)

This is a bit of a daft post but I have finally thought of a way of describing pain during ESWT (so many people ask)-it feels like having a tetanus jab (that deep sudden fleeting ache) about twice a second in the heel with some mere 'slaps' that do not hurt at all every few seconds.

How does that sound to everyone. Ring any bells?

Easy description even for those of us who have not had ESWT.

I'd have to say mine was a lttle different, quite a bit different really. One heel had absolutely no pain. The second one felt like I was getting jabbed repeatedly with an ice pick !!!! :*)

PS: I'm positive the next treatments will be pain free!

I also had 1 heel with no pain and the other one (the more painful one to start with) felt like a huge ache with a dull jab, but certainly tolerable because you know it will come to an end in a few minutes, unlike PF which goes on and on and on ad nauseum!! Mar

I'd describe my PF pain, like walking 5 miles on a sock that had bunched up at the heel, putting pressure on that one sore spot, over and over and over again. Step Ouch, Step Ouch, Step Ouch.

Boy, you hit that one one the head. Feels just like a wrinkled up sock.

I had my feet done this morning with ESWT. They are still numb. I guess the thickness of my ligament was a 7, and the average is about 2. It wasn't painful at all. A few moments of pressure, but overall not bad. I have high hopes of running again. Will keep you posted.

I was told by my Podiatrist that I will be getting a 'local' anesthetic before treatment, did you?
Just curious
