Neurontin---helps heal or not?

Posted by Lolly O on 3/17/03 at 10:24 (113194)

I wished Neurontin had healing properties.

Someone on this forum said that Neurontin does not help heal...it just hides the pain. So after taking it for 6 weeks I quit and switched to ibuprophren. I never saw any pain relief from the Neurontin. If someone told me it did more than mask the pain I might try it again.

I wished Neurontin had healing properties. I have PF/HS and TTS.

Neurontin primarily acts to lessen nerve pain as opposed to healing BUT sometimes the treatment of pain itself can promote healing. Pain which is intense or chronic can maintain a cycle of changes in the tissue that creates more pain so using a drug such as nneurontin to try to break the cycle of pain can have therapeutic value.
