calcium deposit under achilles tendon

Posted by Karen L. on 4/10/03 at 18:34 (115899)

I have a large calcium deposit on my heel under the achilles tendon. I am very reluctant to have surgery because of the risks involved (I am quite overweight) and I fear that if it fails, I would lose the ability to walk.
Can ESWT only be used on small spurs, or can it reduce the size of a larger deposit?

We have used ESWT for chronic insertional achillest tendonitis with or without spurring. This is an off label use in the USA, and not used by many podiatrists. I have used ESWT for this condition for over three years with very effective pain relief. I beleive I was the first podiatrist to use ESWT for this specific condition in the USA.
