theragesic gel vs. ibuprofen gel

Posted by Kari J on 4/26/03 at 14:52 (117192)

Is the ibuprofen gel recommended by many of the sites with advice for plantar fasciitis any better than theragesic gel? What is the difference between the two? Thanks.

Most of the OTC topicals are known as 'counterirritants.' Counterirritants include those substances which may create a cooling or warm sensation on the skin which can make pain beneath the area of application less noticeable. Ibuprofen gel has a true anti-inflammatory and can be better. It would be used as an adjunctive treatment for PF, in combination with treatments aimed at the cause of the problem.
