Heel pain - stress fracture?

Posted by Nick B. on 5/23/03 at 12:58 (119749)

About 10 days ago, while playing in a rec league softball game, I injured my right heel when my foot got tangled up with another player's on a play at first base. I came down hard on my right foot.

I couldn't put my full weight on the heel to walk around (basically, I could walk by walking on the toes and ball of my right foot) up until yesterday. However, in my stubbornness, I played in my team's next game last night and aggravated the condition slightly.

The pain is on the outer edge of the heel and very localized. It feels like it's more of a bone pain rather than a muscle pain, kind of like a bruise. However, I have no swelling or discoloration of any kind in the area.

Would this be symptomatic of a stress fracture? Or is it simply a bone bruise? Or if neither, what could be the cause?

Thank you for your time and help.
