Instep pain?Posted by Cindy M on 5/28/03 at 20:12 (120215)
Help! I have been having intense instep pain on my left foot that radiates to my big toe. My pain is there whether I am resting or walking. The pain is most noticeable when I am at rest. Can anyone tell me what I can do to releave this pain? Do I need to see a doctor or will this go away on it's own?

We need a bit more information. How long has this pain been around? Getting worse? Any trauma?

Sorry. The pain started yesterday (literally, out of the blue). No, trauma. I took a bath last evening and put my foot against the jaccuzi jets. When I did this, the pain was excrutiating. I did take 800mg of Motrin and was able to fall asleep ok.
So far this morning, the pain is not present. I am expecting it to intensify as the day goes forward. I can say that I weigh 195 and am 5'2'. I am guessing weight is a huge factor here? Could this just be a pinched nerve?

Does the pain radiate along the bottom, side or top of the foot to the big toe?

Along the side.

We can only speculate without an exam so if the problem persists, see a professional. Considering the information you have presented, it sounds like a possible neuritis, possibly an inflammation of the saphenous nerve.
