70yr old diabetic in excrutisiating pain from 2 heal spursPosted by linda on 5/29/03 at 18:18 (120313)
My relatively young 70 year old husband is in debilitating pain from heal spurs on the bottom of his heal and the back of the same heal. The one in the back seems to especially stress his tendon. He is a diabetic, he can't tolerate aspirin, and is reluctant to take Tylenol because of potential adverse affects. He is on a number of medications for his diabetes, conjestive heart failure and asthma. He is also a veteran who served three terms in combat. He already has a lot to hold down just to stay above water. His psyche, nor his body can take this additional stress. After showing us the Xrays highlighting the spurs, the doctor essentially said 'go home, there is nothing we can do, you'll be in pain for at least a year.' Please help. There must be something we can do. The pain is already causing sleep deprivation which makes everything worse.
Thank you for your help,
Linda Day Clark

Others who are more knowledgeable and experienced will respond to you, I am sure, but in the meantime, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that your husband and you will find some helpful answers and - well, help - soon. Best wishes to you.

Please take the time to read Scott's Heel Pain Book on this site. There is a lot that can be done for your husband's pain. It is hard to understand why his doctor would make such a comment but he should definitely obtain a second opinion from a foot specialist.
