Help! What's the next step?

Posted by Holly L. on 6/21/03 at 13:26 (122553)

I injured my heel pad and or tendon over a year ago. I have iced, streched,I use ibuprofen 800mg 3x a day, I have every heel cup arch support item on the market with no relief. I prefer not to have cortizone shots. I am on my feet on a cement floor for work at least 6 hours a day. I work during school for the school system, so I will get the summer off. I had my foot finally x-rayed last week and found a heel spur on the bottom of the foot. I can barely walk without a constant limp and now I am getting pain in the whole leg when I am not even on it even when I lay in bed it is hurting now. Would casting it give it a good start to healing the tendon since I have the summer off I can get a good rest? I see my family doctor this week he is not a specialist in feet, but he is always willing to hear what I have learned and willing to try a treatment that might give relief.
Thank you,

Holly L.

If the problem is that significant and started over a year ago, you need to see a specialist. Go with the cast as a way to calm the area down but you need a comprehensive treatment plan.

hi Holly i'm pretty new to the board, but it seems like we have alot in common.I'm thinking of going to a cast or something also. Does your heel hurt just on the bottom of the heel or does the pains ever shoot up the sides or back of the heel? Sometimes mine hurts when I lift my heel off the ground it is wierd. My outside ankle even hurts at times as so does my lateral leg muscle. I think I am over using my foot and I have changed my gait to stay off of my heel. I started wearing my orthotics again, (They hurt so bad before). I use to limp pretty bad but now its a little better.
I think I have let my PF go for 5 months without really sticking to a treatment plan that I made it a whole lot worse. I think if the cast dont work I will hit Physical therapy or ESWT.I'm sorry that this is been such a long issue of pain in your life. I had it 12 years ago in the other foot
(I have HIGH Arches) my kids tell me I have witches feet! It cleared up after a few months and orthotics. But this one is hanging in there but I am constantly on my feet too. Is it in 1 or both feet? Is there swelling?
Good Luck
