bone spur on calcanealPosted by Jack on 6/25/03 at 09:55 (122891)
I have a pretty big bone spur on the back of my heal at the attachment sight of the achilles tendon which causes cronic achilles tendonitis. Will ESWT be an option for treating this?

It is possible that ESWT could relieve the tendinitis but if the spur is large and determined to be a significant factor in the problem, surgical removal may be needed. Use of ESWT for achilles and retrocalcaneal problems is considered to be an 'off label' use and, as such, may be more difficult to obtain insurance coverage for.
