Massage after TTS surgery?Posted by Kristi O. on 6/30/03 at 14:23 (123212)
After my mom had carpal tunnel surgery, she was told to massage the scar. I don't think I was told this after my TTS surgery in late February, at least if I was I totally forgot and haven't been doing it. So, I tried to start doing it because my scar is REALLY ugly and raised in places. It is extremely painful to massage it. It is very tender, and causes shooting pains in my foot. I have been very active, and haven't experienced any other problems since the surgery. My questions are: Am I supposed to be massaging it? If so, what are the possible repercussions of not massaging it (since it hurts)? Thanks for ANY help :)

Scar tissue can be the enemy of good results with tarsal tunnel surgery so I generally recommend physical therapy including massage of the area as it heals.
