Nerve split before it enters the tunnel

Posted by Terry D. on 7/06/03 at 21:00 (123681)

Just a question for the board. My wife seems to think that Dr. Dellon told her after my operation that I was not normal in that my posterial nerve split before the tunnel. He drew her a picture but she lost it. If this is true would the split result in a higher probability of getting tarsal tunnel and if so is there a high probability I have this split in my other foot too?
Thanks, Terry

Terry:

Dellon had showed that a significant percent of posterior tibial nerves split into its branches, higher than expected. The significance of the split in relation to the propensity to develop tarsal tunnel is uncertain.
