Flying after surgery...

Posted by rose on 7/18/03 at 21:49 (124766)

I have been told by my daughter, a nurse, that it is dangerous to fly after surgery. I will be taking a two hour flight 5 weeks after this surgery I had two weeks ago. Is there a danger I do not know about? I would very much like your input on this. Thank you so much for your time.

Long flights in planes with too little leg room (ie. most airlines nowadays) increases the risk of blood clots for everyone, but a little bit more so after surgery. Consider use of a good support hose (anti-embolism hose). Try to move around as much as possible and massage your legs periodically on the plane.
