Bone spurs really only consistency of toothpaste???

Is it true that a bone spur is only the consistency of toothpaste or is this only at a certain stage of development? Thanks, i have read this

. Sometimes when it is removed during heel spur that is what it feels like in my hand

No , a bone spur by definition is bone.
A periosteal reaction may preceed spur formation and can be detected on X-ray.
