There was a recent discussion here about lidocaine patches, so I was interested to see it mentioned here in this article about advances in the treatment of pain for chronic disease:

Sharon:
I have confidence that the lidocaine patch will shine in any pain application that does not require deep penetration of the medication.
Back pain -- a bit iffy, depending on the type of pain and cause.

Now, we will have to deal with the issues of third party coverage for an off label use of the patches.....
