chronic pain partial tear achilles tendon

Posted by elliot e on 9/05/03 at 20:51 (128911)

What surgical approach should I take for an 18 month old painful
achilles tendon. MRI shows chronic and/or degeneration in a 55 year athletic dad. Looking for an experienced surgeon in the Los Angeles with a good track record.

The entity you are describing may be achilles tendinosis. This most commonly occurs at the level of the ankle bones, AKA the 'watershed area' because it has the worst blood supply and is the most likel yarea to rupture. Amol Saxena, DPM has written quite a bit about this. I beleive he is located in the Palo Alto area. In the LA area, Babak Bavavarian, DPM may be worth consulting.
