Follow-up on Swaziland queen storyPosted by Sharon W on 9/08/03 at 09:40 (129111)
It is time to select the new queens in Swaziland, and 35-year-old King Mswati watched Friday as tens of thousands of bare-breasted maidens danced for him at the traditional Reed Festival, nearly all of them hoping to be among the few chosen for the 'honor' of being added to the 11 queens he has already chosen. (The festival is video taped and the king is expected to make his selections after carefully reviewing the tapes, as he has done in the past.)
I wonder if, this time, the family will quietly be spoken with BEFORE the new queen-to-be is 'abducted' to fill her new position -- to avoid a repetition of the bad press King Mswati got last time?

Somehow I don't think we're including Swaziland when we talk about the civilized world. What's with his mother sitting there with him? Is she adding her own opinion?
Peter, in your dreams!!:D

I think that the fact that the King values his mother's opinion speaks very highly of his character.

I'm not so sure the U.S. would qualify for 'civilized' either, considering that a similar scenario is played out on reality TV every night. (Except that the boobage is covered.)

And that is the reason why I only watch Swaziland TV. LONG LIVE THE KING OF SWAZILAND. MAY HIS TRIBE INCREASE. AMEN
