Alternative to reconstructive foot surgery

This one is for all the docs. I've been thinking about having the flat feet reconstructive surgery, but I still can't make up my mind. First of all, my hands are tied due to the fact of Aetna HMO insurance and managed care. Second, is trying to find a surgeon, close to me, that is as good as this Dr. Manoli I've been reading about on this board. Third is the recovery process. Forth is would I be worse after the surgery

I've been told that I have very tight heel cords and if I don't wear any type of heel lift, my feet will cramp and my calves will ache. With that in mind, I read about the Gastroc Slide procedure as a better alternative to the usual achilles lengthening procedure behind the heel. So my question is, 'would lengthening my heel cords be of any benefit without going thru the whole reconstruction process?' Pros/Cons???
