Flexor Hallucis tendonitis

Posted by Sue S on 9/18/03 at 15:03 (130467)

Anyone ever heard of Flexor Hallucis Tendonitis? Just received this diagnosis today after being treated for PF for three months. What causes it and what is the treatment?

Hello Sue,

It is probably caused by repetitive strain.

You actually have 2 big toe flexor muscles. One (brevis)is intrinsic meaning the muscle and tendons are located within your foot and one extrinsic (longus)meaning the muscle and tendons are located mainly outside your foot.

If you want to see some excellent diagrams please go to http://www.foottrainer.com click PF and then click foot/lower leg anatomy.

The best treatment is to strengthen the opposing muscles, your extensor hallicus brevis and longus.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Mike W
