Fall FoliagePosted by Necee on 10/23/03 at 15:35 (135179)
Can any of ya'll up north give a report on the Fall color?
I'm just curious as to if things are at their peak right now.
Reading reports from all parts of the country would be great!
Happy trails to you......

We are a bit past the peak up here in the Chicago area, so am I come to think of it. My wife and I were in Wisconsin, just over the boarder, behind the cheddar curtian, the weekend before last and it was spectacular.

about half the colorful leaves are on the ground now here in maine, but in a way i like this better than peak of the season -- color is Everywhere: on the trees, on the ground, on the road, on the sidewalk, in your hair, in the air. it's great!
we had our first snow today, if you can believe it. it didn't stick, but still, flakes flying through the air in october is not my idea of october. i hope not to see any more of it until, say, february, and then for only one week. think i'm dreaming?

Beautiful photos. What type of camera do you use? Did you say you do this professionally or just a hobby? Great color.

I would love to see fall colors or snow flakes. We are setting heat records here. It's been in the low 90's to high 80's during the day and 50's at night. Yuk! My maple trees are losing their leaves before they have even changed colors. Now we are on high alert for fires since the winds are really supposed to kick up tomorrow and they are coming from the North. North winds are always hot and dry... I'll take anyones snow flakes!

I have a Sony cyber shot. I have the newer Sony Mavicas for my students. My husband is a photographer and graphic designer. He does lots of brochures, web pages, bill board signs, weddings, senior photos, etc...he also teaches a photography class at the local college.
I teach art....that includes photogaphy, computer graphics, animation and film. I take alot of photos for paintings. Actually I just got back from Fort Wayne...new canvases and paint. Hurray!
Speaking of colleges and schools...we went and looked at Hillsdale College over the weekend. It's only about 30 minutes from here. Very nice college. Hope to take an actual tour soon.

What part of the country do you live in? You don't have to be specific.
Re: Fall Foliagewendyn on 10/23/03 at 21:26 (135212)
Most of our leaves were blown off by some nasty wind today.
Things are starting to look rather brown and icky. We don't have snow, and there aren't any leaves or green things left....so it's just sort of drab.
Re: Fall Foliagenancy s. on 10/23/03 at 21:32 (135213)
but wendy: won't the memory of drab seem awfully wonderful when you're housebound by sidewalks and roads of snow and ice, and rock-hard white icebanks that'll kill you if you fall into one? last winter i was longing, yearning, praying! for a glimpse of brown ground, by about december 27. as we know, it was about four months in coming.

If you take that tour I think you'll notice the difference between schools. You'll be expected and welcomed at Hillsdale as individuals not just part of another group of parents passing through. They will continue to stay in touch through personal cards and letters.
Checking out universities and colleges is really fun. An exciting time for students and parents.

I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas in northern CA, half way between Sacramneto and Lake Tahoe.

Here in southern NH, the leaves are falling, just as they are in southern Maine where Nancy is. This Fall the color wasn't quite as vibrant as usual. On some of the trees, the leaves just kind of turned brownish and then fell. I still haven't found out why but I think it had something to do with having had so much rain in the Spring. The rain amounts really affect the leaf colors.
The snow flakes fell until nearly 1PM yesterday! They're forecasting that it will be near 60 on Sunday. That's the way the weather is in New England!

Lari - you live not far from my son who is in Placerville.
Re: Fall FoliageLari S. on 10/25/03 at 10:48 (135466)
We are just over an hour from Placerville. We actually live in Nevada County off of I-80, north of Placerville. To go to Placerville, we go down I-80 and then over on Hwy 49. We have friends that own the Harley-Davidson shop there, so usually ride that way when there is a group ride.
