A question for Dr. Wander

Posted by Aly on 11/10/03 at 16:02 (136976)

Last week you mentioned Sole Custom Footbeds, the kind that you heat & place into the shoe, and stand in the shoe to mold them to your foot shape. I'm curious, wouldn't the arch flatten out somewhat if you stand in the shoe to form them? I'm thinking of trying these, but I wanted to ask you about this first.

Thanks for all your informative posts!

Remember, these are not truly 'custom' orthoses. I often use PowerSteps in my office, but since these are pre-formed, some patients can not get comfortable and feel that the arch is too high or in the wrong place. The Sole Custom Footbeds allow the arch to fit your foot a little better when heated, and they can be re-heated to re-mold if needed. Unless your foot is completely flat, the arch will not flatten out, and even if your foot is flat, the footbeds aren't THAT moldable and will not flatten out. It's worth a try.
