Bunion Surgery

Posted by Sarah T. on 11/11/03 at 22:42 (137178)

Hi:

I will be having surgery next week for a bunion on my left foot. I can't put any weight on it for two weeks. Does anyone know any kind of exercises for the thighs or lower body that can be done without putting pressure on the foot or done when sitting down? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You!

Go to http://www.collagevideo.com and look for 'specialty' or special needs videos - you will see a series called 'Sit and Be Fit'. Go to Amazon.com and look for videos and books called 'Gentle Fitness' -
YOu can do Pilates, but that is not specifically for thighs or lower body.
You could get on your back and do the old-fashioned 'bicycling' move - legs in air, lying on the back. Search on the web for sites that are designed for 'exercising with disabilities' or similar categories that will show you what to do with limitations. Contact a physical therapist for advice with your limitations.
