Heather, if you've been walking differently in order to avoid the pain of PF, yes, it probably has affected your hips and lower back. This happens to many people. It's hard to give short-term advice on what to do because it's so difficult, with a little baby, to get off your feet and give them the rest they need.

But what you MUST do, is see a podiatrist. This is a doctor who specialises in foot ailments. If you are lucky, and find a good one, he or she should be able to discover what is causing your PF, and suggest treatments to address the cause.

Also, read the heel pain book. Click on the blue words right here. It is full of information and ideas. Then come back and ask questions. There are lots of people here who have been through it, and can give help and support.

It could be that your orthotics are not right for you and are making matters worse. Have you tried going without them to see if that makes any difference?

Heather,

There may be a common thread to all of these conditions. I know a disparity in leg length can be a factor in PF, hip, and back problems. To explore this an orthopedic surgeon would be appropriate. Best of luck with your 9 month old. I hope you find a way to enjoy this time in your life despite the difficulties. What a great stage, easy for me to say now. As Julie mentioned read the book. After a bit of research you may have different questions and people will be here to help.

I had the exact same issue-it was IT Band Syndome. (illiotiblial band) or it could be sciatica related.. the only thing you can do for it is: rest, ice, compression(even tho it doesnt feel good) and elevation..also massage helps.

-hoped that helped you out.
