Employed? With failed surgery after 4 yrs. trying to heal.Posted by Mary on 1/20/04 at 10:31 (142443)
Started work when I was 12 yrs. old. At 25 I started working at a Warehouse. At 30 I took a supervisors position (Training coach) after 5 yrs. Walking this whse. (cement floors)in a rapid pace, the pain came and me being this go-get-her, wanting to make my numbers, kept going for another 2 yrs.
(Now kicking myself for damaging my nerves in both feet and legs so bad that they are considered permanently damaged.)
12-28-1999 up went my hands, I just could not go anymore. The pain had gotten so bad. I went to my family dr. for help. He referred me to
an out-of-town dr. which laughed in my face saying, 'You just have that plain old-fashion Plantar Fasciitis' He said he has it too, 'just do these stretches when it gets to hurting bad.' I told him I did not have a time when it was not hurting bad. Needless to say I left very hurt, embarrassed, and even more depressed.
Back to my family dr. for another referral. Asking him to refer me to my sisters dr. thinking I have the same symptoms as she did and her surgeries were a success for TT release on both her feet.
They did the EMG on my feet which was positive for TTS.
Surgeries 4 yrs. ago and still unable to find anyway I can go back to the work force.
Trying to get my disability and fighting with that also. I do see a light at the end of the tunnel but this tunnel sure is a long one.
Has anyone gotten their disability?
After working 25 yrs. I do have my SS built up. They just haven't even heard of one crippled from tarsal tunnel syndrome.
SS sent me to a dr. who has never heard of TTS.
Lord give me strength.
Thank you for your time.

You have been through alot. Thanks for coming here and sharing your story. I hope they come through for you...SS that is. I remeber calling the ADA office to get some adivice on how to approach my employer about a couple of accomadations and he had never heard of tts...I wonder how we can educate these government agencies on the topic of tts?

Thanks Marie for your conforting comments. It is so aggravating that the ones who make the decisions do not even know what they are deciding on.
It is nice to have this board to go and read, and know you are not alone.
I know a lot of people who have carpal tunnel syndrome and seems the surgery comes through for them. I guess you don't walk on your hands thou:)
