Can you recommend a good yoga book for beginners? I would like to increase my overall flexibility, with the hope that I might also decrease my PF pain.

I like Donna Farhi's books very much. The Breathing Book, and Yoga: Mind, Body and Spirit. You could also look (Amazon) for Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha by Swami Satyananda Saraswati - this is a treasure trove of a book that encapsulates the whole of the Bihar School of Yoga system (which is my tradition).
You could also look (again on the net) for my Office Yoga (out of print now, but used copies are still around - look under Julie Friedeberger as there are a couple of later books of that title). It might be particularly suitable as most of the exercises can be done sitting in a chair.
