If you are talking about plantar fasciitis, the very best thing to do is to get down to the actual cause of the problem, which is stress and overuse of the fascia. The fascia must be properly supported to reduce excess stretching each time you take a step. I can not think of an athletic shoe that actually has arch support inside. There may be a little bump thing they call support, but that does not match your foot.
Shoes must only hinge at the ball of the foot. It should not hinge at all in the middle or the arch area. This can further cause irritation to the fascia. I like New Balance and Brooks. Some of the lower end of those will hinge at the wrong place as well...so keep an eye out for that.
Many like the Birk sandals. Those have a good support area in them.
